Muck Rack Catches Mainstream Media and Blog Mentions
Personally, I recommend Muck Rack for media monitoring and relations. Although, I don’t think just one tool is enough. I would use a combination of Muck Rack, Google Alerts, a backlink logging software like Ahrefs or Semrush, which can tell you every time someone linked to your website, and a social media listening tool that can monitor for keywords and alert you when those keywords are discovered.
I like Muck Rack for mainstream media and blog mentions because it catches them faster than Google alerts sometimes, and has a sentiment analysis suite built in that can tell when coverage is negative, neutral, or positive.
Another great thing about Muck Rack is that it gives you background information on the journalist who mentioned your company or brand, their contact details, and just makes communicating with them much easier and faster. You can also put together reports directly in the Muck Rack suite that allows you to visualize media mentions and trends as well as other data like viewership and traffic.
Anyone who’s looking for a more due diligence focused solution I would recommend CLEAR by Reuters or Nexus Diligence, which allows you to find negative press mentions, court records, and background information on brands or individuals.
Again, I think it’s always best to use a variety of tools, but if I had to just choose one for media monitoring it would probably be Muck Rack and Google Alerts. We tried BuzzSumo in the past, and found it to be quite good for media monitoring, but their journalist database wasn’t as robust as Muck Rack’s.
